Loblaws is a Canadian supermarket chain. It was founded in Toronto in 1919 at a time when most stores had the grocery items behind the counter – customers would tell the clerk what they wanted and wait for the clerk to fetch the items. Loblaws founders – Theodore Pringle Loblaw and J. Milton Cork – decided to try a new concept where customers could serve themselves. Many believed this new grocery retailing concept would never catch on but evidently it did! Many other grocers began to adopt the format, and within 10 years Loblaws expanded to include over 70 locations in Ontario alone.
Loblaws carries all the popular Canadian and international brands in their store as well as the President’s Choice brand (PC) that is found only in select Canadian supermarkets. President’s Choice products include baby, bakery, beverages, dairy & eggs, deli, fish & seafood, frozen, grocery, household, meat & poultry, pet, and produce.
On the Loblaws website you can explore more about the President’s Choice brand. They also have an excellent recipes section where you can search for recipes by type of cuisine, dish type, healthier choices, main ingredient, meal, occasion, preparation strategy, preparation time, season, and skill level. Having many search options makes it easy to find a recipe that you feel confident you can create and that your family will love.
The Loblaws website also has store-specific information. When you first enter the website you’ll be asked to choose your province (Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia). You can then click on Store Info and add your address to get store-specific information, view your weekly flyer, and check out the available coupons.
If you’re interested in a career at Loblaws, there is a specific Careers website where you can get more information on part-time, full-time and new graduate opportunities. Some of the perks of Loblaws employment include a 10% discount on eligible products, a stock contribution matching program, a refer-a-friend program, a flexible work schedule, and complete training to ensure that you can do your job well and provide excellent customer service.
Loblaws also understands the importance of being connected to the community. Their focus charity is the President’s Choice Children’s Charity which provides support to children with disabilities and nutrition programs to boost children’s health. They also offer direct community support to programs that focus on one of these target areas: (1) Healthy, Active, (2) Feeding our Neighbours in partnership with Food Banks Canada, and (3) Greening our Communities.
